Stephen Houdlette, the Town of Kennebunk Economic Vitality Director, and Town staff gave an overview of Roux Institute's new business mentorship and training program, Venture Forward Kennebunk, and will give some updates on policy and trends in Town.

Stephen Houdlette talked about what drives Kennebunk's economic development, and what is being done by the town to improve it. The Economic Vitality department works on events, infrastructure, and planning.

There are over 700 businesses and 500 commercial properties providing the town's economic base. Beaches, dining options and parks all form important elements of our town and we have seen growth in the Wellness sector.

Many businesses face economic challenges right now. Prices- no one happy; products, electricity, housing up 92%, electricity up 55%, even eggs are up.
Lack of cellular coverage is another business barrier that is being addressed. There is currently a project to install a new cell tower across from skate park, which will provide downtown cellular coverage, and also improve public safety radio coverage and reliability. Tower leasing will provide revenue back to the town. This project is not approved, and public support is appreciated.

A new initiative, called Venture Forward Kennebunk is in partnership with Northeastern University's Roux Institute. The program is designed to help existing businesses with research and development, and provides masters-level business training. It is an 8- week program, with some classes  at Roux, and some virtual. it includes personal mentoring and one on one sessions.

Applications are due March 9, and the program is looking for businesses and mentors
