Emergency Communications for Kennebunk
Recently retired KFR Paramedic David Garriepy has been working on a project to build a system in our local area in York County that would allow any family or citizens in our area to have a redundant radio system for communication using low-cost radios. The presenters are concerned that we have much less ability to get emergency information out to our community during storms/natural disasters/power outages, and other emergent events than we did in the ’70s and ’80s. The objective if the system would be to build resilience for Kennebunk citizens in the event that the cell phone network fails, as it has in some recent national disasters. The presneters will discuss what will be needed to get this emergency capability in place, and what residents would have to do to access it. |
